Professional Knowledge

An effective teacher not only fosters the development of their students, but also prioritizes the ongoing development of their own professional knowledge. Teaching is a profession that I believe requires continuous learning in an effort to best meet the needs of our students.  I understand the value in constant and consistent self-evaluation, which is why I will continue to set professional goals for myself, attending learning seminars and reading to remain current in my knowledge of educational theories and practices. From my own experience, I have discovered that the best teachers were often those who have experienced different cultures and were varied in their interests, which reflected in their divergent teaching styles.

I further acknowledge the importance in keeping current in light of technological advances and multimedia applications in the classroom. I endeavour to meet students’ technological interests, providing purposeful use of instructional tools, multimedia videos, and online applications to motivate and engage students in learning tasks. My transitional knowledge of online resources and web applications has enhanced instruction in the classroom, through the use of SmartBoard lessons, student use of educational iPad supports, and in the future, I plan to create an online classroom connection for students and parents.
